The Nurse Informatics Specialist will be responsible for analysis of work flow & will assess system needs, plan, design, implement & evaluate system applications & coordinate the design of related educational strategies. The qualified candidate will be an RN with a BSN, posses' comprehensive knowledge of nursing practices, 3 yrs of current acute care nursing experience, as well as experience with IT implementation projects. Candidate will serve in the role of chairperson for the hospital Nursing Informatics Committee and as the HIPAA security officer. Function in a leadership role, while collaborating with the multidisciplinary teams, as a clinical systems expert. Develops and implements training pertaining to the staff s use of clinical systems. Participate as an active and integral member of the information technologies services department, to help maintain the standards of care and practice through clinical systems improvement, activities and clinical staff education as it relates to information technology. The candidate will also assist with the identification, evaluation, and assessment of new care delivery technology, developing recommendations on the impact of integration with existing workflows and systems. Responsible as a thought leader for maximizing technology design to achieve the best clinical outcomes and leads the organization's approach to clinical documentation in collaboration with the Nursing Informatics Committee. Manages the development and implementation of clinical and physician information systems to ensure desired goals and objectives are met. Lead the integration between clinical areas and IT regarding the development and translation of business needs, using the appropriate reporting tools and methodologies. Ensure that new or modified clinical information systems maintain patient confidentiality and privacy, in accordance with HIPAA and Joint Commission. Researches and coordinates the implementation of clinical computer applications which provide optimum productivity, patient confidentiality, and system security and are in accordance with the organization's long-range goals. Specializes in patient care processes and clinician workflow and leads initiatives to promote effective process design, development, and implementation of the Electronic Medical Record and other technologies. Partners with nursing informatics committee to facilitate advanced clinical decision support implementation within the electronic medical record in order to meet clinical goals. Solve application and workflow issues and work through barriers to achieve results by collaborating effectively with users and the Information Technology staff. Participates in development, monitoring and evaluation of technology and decision support (barcode point of care, rules, order sets, etc.) for continuous improvement. Responsible for implementing, managing, and enforcing information security directives which are mandated by HIPAA. Ensure the ongoing integration of information security with business strategies and requirements. Ensure that the access control, disaster recovery, business continuity, incident response, and risk management needs of the organization are properly addressed. Lead information security awareness and training initiative to educate workforce about information risks. Perform ongoing information risk assessments and audits to ensure that information systems are adequately protected and meet HIPAA certification requirements. Lead an incident response team to contain, investigate and prevent future computer security breaches. Manage workflow and business process changes to ensure the success and optimization of new or modified clinical information systems. Train, educate, and instruct clinical users on features, operation, and usage of software systems. Provide writing and documentation support to capture business area reporting requirements. Develop and implement auditing and review processes to ensure project goals and objectives are met. Deliver regular reports that clearly communicate the results and/or progress of clinical systems initiatives. Monitor system performance, and report to IT when anomalies, errors, inaccuracies, or inefficiencies occur. Make recommendations as needed. Remain abreast of trends and developments in the field of clinical informatics and associated software. Utilizes the knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer application and to ensure the Information Systems are consistent with professional standards of clinical practice. Working knowledge of clinical performance improvement; excellent verbal, written and presentation skills. Patient Safety knowledge. Adept at persuading and training physicians and staff to adopt new workflows and tools, requiring strong knowledge of change management. Strong knowledge of systems analysis, workflow planning, gathering business requirements and transforming them into functional specifications. Broad knowledge of hospital operations and associate technologies. Able to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and healthcare guides. Excellent ability to translate technical terminology for consumption by non-technical audiences. Knowledge of adult learning and training methods. Good familiarity with project management, quality assurance, and information. 5 years minimum healthcare experience. 5 years experience in IT with implementation, project management and/or application support.
