    Job Duties:
    Coordinates and prioritizes all patient admissions from physician offices, Emergency Department, other hospital departments, outlying hospitals, etc.  Identifies attending physician for patients' entering from other facilities and collaborates with facility to arrange transportation of patient.  Identifies and assigns the nursing unit and bed for incoming patients.  Screens for insurance requirements and obtains authorizations that are required prior to admission.  Assists admitting source in ensuring that the patient receives  the needed services in keeping with patient choice and payer coverage.  If necessary, assists them in routing patient to another hospital within the patient's insurance network.  Identifies correct patient type and inpatient or outpatient designation.  Enters information into the teletracking program for the main campus.  Arranges for the internal transfer between patient beds and units.  Manages special bed needs, such as critical care telemetry, isolation, etc.  Attends and actively participates in the daily bed meetings to plan for potential and know admissions, discharges and transfers.  Coordinates the bed cleaning and patient transport needed when patient placement must be rearranged to accommodate  an urgent incoming patient.  Works collaboratively with Patient Registration, Emergency Department, Patient Support Services Nursing, Environmental Services, Transportation, Surgery, Cardiology and other departments to ensure a smooth admission process for Physicians and patients.  Participates in departmental Performance Imporvement, Corporate Compliance, Patient Satisfaction, and other activities to ensure optimal operations of the department.  Actively participates in the design and implementation of strategies to improve department operations, and patient outcomes.  Serves as a role model for consistent demonstration of Sparrow Health System's Customer Service Behavioral Standards of Performance, by respecting the Privacy and confidentiality of those we serve.  Demonstrates knowledge and respects patient, service provider, organizational confidentiality and HIPAA Security procedures and protocols as defined under the HIPAA Privacy and Security Procedures.  follows established HIPAA privacy procedures when using and/or disclosing protected health information.  Maintains and protects patients rights under the HIPAA Privacy Standards.

    Job Requirements:
    RN with current Michigan license. Minimum of five years experience in an acute care hospital in ED, critical care, med-surg or nursing (hospital-wide) supervision or three years experience in an acute care hospital with recent change experience on a regular basis or two years previous experience in an admission/bed placement center at an acute care hospital or similar size and volume of admissions. Demonstrates excellent clinical knowledge, skills and judgment with strong clinical nursing assessment skills. Demonstrates ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, think logically and sequentially and creatively problem solve. Demonstrates ability to act quickly and adjust to change. Demonstrates ability to work independently, organize and prioritize and work to meet all deadlines. Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills, including relationship building, negotiation, persuasion, marketing and advocacy. Demonstrates ability to work in stressful situations, manage conflict and assume a leadership role. Proficient in use of computers. Experience as a charge nurse, nursing supervisor or critical care nurse preferred.

    Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
    Department operations occur 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.  Staff must be flexible in schedule and covering of departmental absences.  Much use of computers and telephone.  Frequent interaction with other departmental Associates, other hospital departments, outlying hospitals, and physicians.  Carries pager, Extensive traveling throughout the hospital campus.  Will be required to work in main office, Emergency Department, and on all patient care units.  Category II exposure to blood and body fluids.  Frequent exposure to latex.  Willing to work one Friday night per month.
