Purpose of Job: The purpose of the X-Ray Technician, Non-Registered, is to operate x-ray equipment to obtain routine radiographs of prescribed areas of the body according to physician orders (under supervision of registered technologists). This position needs to perform general/fluoroscopy/surgical/portable imaging. Must have good computer, communication and customer service skills. Documented good attendance required. Must have current clinical Radiography experience.
Responsibilities: Transport, lift and position patient to obtain quality diagnostic x-rays; calculate and select proper technical factors in order to properly expose x-ray film; select proper image size in accordance with requested radiographic examination; ensure all images are properly identified and recorded in the RIS; check all images with registered technologists performing similar duties routinely; responsible for knowing the departmental policies and procedures including: universal precautions, code procedures, handling critically ill patient, etc.; and perform imaging in a PACS environment.
Working Conditions: Lifting and handling of patients; lifting up to 25 pounds; flexibility of hours in order to provide secondary coverage on nights and weekend; extensive standing and walking; use of latex 40% of the time; and frequently (51-75%) exposed to latex environment.
Requirements: Must have current Radiography experience and be enrolled in a fully accredited Radiologic Technology Program and proceeding successfully though the program; demonstrated to clinical preceptor advanced skills in the art of radiography; student in final year of training and eligible for registry examination, preferred; demonstrated ability including passing of competencies in all general diagnostic x-ray procedures; able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients serviced in her/his assigned service area as related to the principle duties and responsibilities of the position; serves as a role model for consistent demonstration of Sparrow Health System's Customer Service Behavioral Standards of Performance by respecting the Privacy and Confidentiality of those we serve; demonstrates knowledge and respects patient, service provider, organizational confidentiality and HIPAA Security procedures and protocols as defined under the HIPAA Privacy and Security Procedures; follows established HIPAA privacy procedures when using and/or disclosing protected health information; and maintains and protects patients rights under the HIPAA Privacy Standards.
*Upon completion of the training program the student (Non-Registered Technologist) must complete the required ARRT Boards under the guidelines and successful completion guidelines established by the ARRT Board. The successful completion of the ARRT Boards is a requirement for continued employment in the Sparrow Imaging Health System.*
Will work every other weekend.
