The Surgical Services Department at St Elizabeth’s Hospital consists of the following units: Surgery, PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit), ASU (Ambulatory Surgery Unit), Pre Admission Testing  (Prep Clinic), and Endoscopy Unit.

The following surgical specialties are provided within surgery:  General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Urology Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Thoracic and Open Heart Surgery,  and Vascular Surgery.  Elective surgery is performed Monday through Friday from 0700-1900, and Saturday from 0700-1500; urgent and emergent procedures are performed 24/7/365. 

Surgery Scheduler will have completed their high school education. Completion of formal ward clerk training program or its equivalent. Accurate typing skills. Medical background or knowledge of medical terminology required. Previous experience as ward clerk desirable, but not essential. Past experience (minimum 1 year) in Scheduling, Operating Room or Radiology preferred. Must be proficient in computer data entry.

Surgery Scheduler performs clerical, receptionist, computer functions and surgical services scheduling for nursing unit and serves as communication facilitator for nursing unit to ensure effective departmental functioning. Responsible for accurately scheduling, revising or canceling all procedures within the scope of the Scheduling Department. Obtains necessary information for proper scheduling, enters data into the computer in a timely manner and ensures appropriate departmental communication. Is familiar with scheduling formats used and general preparatory requirements for procedures
