***This position open to candidates who meet the minimum requirements for EITHER a Medical Laboratory Technician or a Medical Technologist. ***

MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST: MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None may provide lead work direction to other staff members in the absence of a supervisor or the Laboratory Manager.

POSITION SUMMARY: Performs assays accurately and timely on patient samples using a variety of automated and manual testing procedures to aide the physician in patient diagnosis and treatment. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, safety, environmental and infectious control standards so that the laboratory remains in compliance with accreditation agencies and Washington State laws governing health care assistants.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Training: Bachelor Degree with MT or equivalent to certification requirements.

Experience: None

License/Certification: MT (ASCP) or equivalent.

Skills: Demonstrated skills equivalent to certification requirements. Demonstrates sensitivity to confidential information. Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, patients and co-workers. Ability to learn and apply safety procedures. Ability to write legibly. Ability to follow work related directions and instructions. Follows established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, safety, environmental and infectious control standards (including a minimum of 7 hours of AIDS education) so that the laboratory remains in compliance with accreditation agencies and Washington State. Ability to perform the physical requirements and essential functions of the job.

MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN: MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None directly. May be asked to provide work direction to others when supervisor or department director is absent.
