Reporting to the Hospital President the incumbent is responsible for outreach programs aimed at improving the public health--particularly that of the poor and underserved in our service territory--through education and prevention programs that address population health issues, break down barriers to accessing equitable health care, and promote healthy communities. Additionally, the position actively engages three committees--the Community Benefits Hospital Leadership Team, the Community Benefits Advisory Committee-Haverhill, the Community Benefits Advisory Committee-Methuen-- as well as the Board of Directors throughout the year for direction, exchange of vital information and approval of the annual community benefits plan.
*Conducts a community health needs assessment every three years to ascertain population health issues and overarching concerns/issues impacting community health.
*Identifies community benefits priorities for the next three years based on data from the latest community health needs assessment.
*Creates an annual community benefits plan that addresses the community benefits priorities with available staffing, financial and community resources. Such priorities/programming may include but are not limited to mental health, substance use disorder, cancer education and prevention, transportation/safe streets issues, domestic violence/neglect issues, informational programs, and public screenings.
*Presents the plan to three community benefits committees and the hospital Board of Directors for approval.
*Creates and manages annual budget.
*Advises hospital leadership on community issues, potential opportunities and conflicts.
*Ensures that hospital is represented on key community coalitions and at key community events.
*Identifies and works closely with community groups, coalitions and individuals to carry out community benefits priorities. Serves as a conduit for new and improved programs which address community health. Serves on:
*City of Lawrence Mayor's Health Task Force (CHNA 11-greater Lawrence) Executive Committee and the Lower Merrimack Valley and Seacoast Health Partnerships (CHNA 12-greater Haverhill) Steering Committee
*Salem, NH, Methuen, and Haverhill substance use disorder coalitions
*Haverhill Public Schools Wellness Committee; the Methuen Adult Learning Center advisory board; Haverhill's Mt. Washington Alliance; CHNA 11 Behavioral Health and Healthy Active Living working groups and Homelessness Initiative.
*Coordinates Methuen Farmers Market with Groundwork Lawrence, and implements the annual farmers market voucher program for patients and families.
*Spearheads new opportunities for, and oversees hospital staff participation in community lectures, health fairs, local chambers of commerce events, the Diabetes Today Coalition, community service projects to underserved populations, and other community activities.
*Conducts quarterly meetings with stakeholders who make up the Community Benefits Advisory Committee-Haverhill, the Community Benefits Advisory Committee-Methuen, and the Community Benefits Hospital Leadership Team. The position also identifies and appoints people to these committees. Meets regularly with the hospital president, and as needed with the Vice President of Government Relations and Community Benefits.
*Files by April 1, the annual on-line community benefits report (covering the prior fiscal year) to the Massachusetts Attorney General. Also creates the narrative version of the annual community benefits report.
*Works closely with hospital public relations and marketing director to publicize hospital community benefits events and, as necessary, those of local organizations with which the Director of Mission and Community Partnerships is engaged.
*Oversees hospital's commitment to sponsorships for various organizations, including required advertising, and consults with hospital president, and public relations and marketing director on such sponsorships.
*Ensures that the hospital abides by the Massachusetts Attorney General Guidelines for Community Benefits.
*Bachelor's degree in public health, public affairs, public relations, or equivalent background.
*Experience in community relations and/or community organizing.
*Familiarity with hospital's service area.
*Strong interpersonal, teamwork and leadership skills.
*Some evening and weekend work required.
*Compassion and desire to help community members and organizations.
