 St. Francis Medical Center (SFMC) is dedicated to serving the healthcare needs of the communities of Southeast Los Angeles. We operate a 384-bed acute care hospital and one of the largest and busiest private emergency trauma centers in Los Angeles County -- treating more than 84,000 children and adults each year. Last year, more than 5,000 babies were born at SFMC's Family Life Center, with 875 babies cared for in our state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Center. We are a Primary Stroke Care Center and STEMI Receiving Center, both of which are approved by the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency.

 

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The RN - Emergency requires the full underst8nding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of St. Francis Medical   Center. It is expected that the associate holding this position will demonstrate behaviors consistent with our core values and will comply with all required standards governing our commitment to Compassionate Care, Exemplary Service and serving our patients. The associate holding this position will support St. Francis Medical Center's strategic plan and all essential elements, Quality Improvement and Financial Stewardship

 

MAJOR JOB OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • This position requires providing care and service to a pediatric through geriatric patient population. The associate is responsible for providing age appropriate care to medically ill and traumatized emergency department patients in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional and developmental age of the individual served.
  • Assesses patient and family health problems and resources. Takes a leadership role in the development, implementation and outcomes evaluation of a plan for nursing care provided by the nursing team. Provides technical nursing care and interventions to designated patient populations.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Current CA RN license
  • Current BLS-C (AHA), ACLS,
  • PALS (within 30 days of hire)
  • EKG Certificate
  • ENPC and TNCC preferred
  • PAT training required (within 90 days for new hires)

Work Experience:

  • One year emergency or critical care experience preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Trauma experience preferred
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Basic computer skills

Physical Demands:

Must continuously (66% to 100% of a work day):

  • Use wrist rotation/deviation.
  • Be able to walk on tile floors.
  • Stand to do patient care.

Must frequently (34% to 66% of a work day):

  • Stooping and squatting to do patient care.
  • Twisting and bending of the neck forward and backward.

Must occasionally (11% to 33% of a work day):

  • Repetitive hand use/keyboarding.
  • Sitting to do patient care and documentation
  • May use of bilateral upper extremities and hand in reaching above shoulder level.
  • Bending while standing. Carrying a minimum of 51 lbs. lifting a minimum of 51lbs
