GENERAL PURPOSE:

Works collaboratively with hospital administration, clinical staff and associates to identify, develop and implement processes to support the daily operations of the Clinical Laboratory Services, while ensuring delivery of high quality service to the patients.  The Director is responsible for ensuring that the operational processes are in compliance with the various regulatory standards impacting the Laboratory. The Director must maintain professional competency in the application of the principles of management, promote a safe environment for patients and staff, and perform all related job responsibilities in a professional and effective manner.  The director will be responsible for the effective leadership of the department and will ensure a positive interaction with patients and their families, medical staff, visitors, and hospital staff.  Will prepare fiscal year budgets and stay within projections.

 

MAJOR JOB OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • To plan and implement departmental goals & objectives; assure coordination of such with the mission and philosophy of the organization.
  • To review and update annually the department policies, procedures, and job descriptions, including physical Requirements competencies, & performance evaluation tools.
  • To effectively use existing staff.
  • To motivate, counsel, and evaluate employees.
  • To prepare fiscal year budgets and stay within projections.
  • To complete management reports on a timely basis.
  • To assure compliance of all regulatory requirements and the organization's polices & procedures.
  • To exercise all aspects of management skills effectively.
  • To work at establishing good rapport and working relationship with all staff
  • To complete appropriate documentation.
  • To communicate in English in patient care areas.
  • To report any unusual occurrences, situation, or hazards to appropriate personnel.
  • To demonstrate knowledge of safety, infection controls and emergency policies and procedures.
  • To participate in QIP activities & incorporate CORE values into daily routine.
  • Adherence to Hospital/Department Polices
  • To adhere to the general hospital/departmental policies as they pertain to dress code, safety, timecards, and attendance.
  • To comply with mandatory meetings, health evaluation, and other credential requirements.
  • Positive interaction with patients and their families, medical staff, visitors, and hospital staff.
  • Adjustment to fluctuating work volume.
  • Must be able to work independently within scope of assigned tasks with minimal instructions.

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Los Angeles City Fire/Safety Card within 30 days of hire.
  • Master's Degree in Health Care or eligibility, preferred
  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license. 

 

Work Experience:

  • At least 3 years supervisory experience in an acute care setting.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Must have complete understanding of all aspects of management skills.
  • Must have complete understanding & knowledge of the professional skills utilized in the department.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
