Develops and maintains age appropriate curriculum for children from ages 6 weeks to 12 years.  Accepts responsibility form managing and nurturing children of all ages served according to the DCFS License approved for the child development center.  Maintains effective parent communication skills.  Serves as role model to children and prepares them for future education endeavourers.  Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and education experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System initiatives.

Must meet Department of Children and Family Services Educational Requirement:  Sixty semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age six or one year (1560 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center and 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or development, from birth to age six.  Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or child development preferred with six credit hour emphasis in education of young child.   Two to 5 years of group care and education experience desirable with significant opportunities to manage with skill and comfort activities for as few as four infants to as many as 20 school age children. 

DCFS clearance/Background Check of Finger Printing Network.  First Aid Certification and Heartsaver pediatric first aid certification within 90 days of hire.

 

Demonstrates active support for development of premier early childhood education program with compliance to DCFS Standards and accepted behaviors of best practices.  Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required. Knowledge of DCFS Standards, State of Illinois, recommendations for curriculum and best practices.   Familiarity with record keeping practices and external regulatory requirements as in DCFS standards, State of Illinois, local and state Health Departments, Fire codes.   Proficiency in word processing systems.  Strong organizational and planning skills.  Ability to establish effective working relationships and clearly and calmly communicate in English both verbally and in writing with children and their families and all levels of staff and the public.
