  • We are seeking a Media Relations Coordinator to join our team of dedicated professionals as we continue our mission of improving the health of the communities we serve.


    Job Description

    In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors; and in conjunction with the Director of External Affairs, the Media Relations Coordinator assists in planning, managing and implementing Mount Carmel's media relations program in support of the healthcare ministry's mission and strategic initiatives. This position works to ensure that the media relations program (1) Builds strong relationships with news media reporters, editors and producers, (2) Secures news coverage of Mount Carmel with an emphasis on key clinical service lines, programs and services and associated physician partners, and (3) Seeks to mitigate the impact of potential and actual negative news stories that would harm Mount Carmel's reputation. The Media Relations Coordinator position secondarily supports the community relations program as able/necessary under the direction of the Director of Public Affairs.

    (For patient care providers) Provides nursing care, ensures an environment of patient safety, promotes evidence-based practice and quality initiatives and exhibits professionalism in nursing practice within the model of the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®.


    Strategic Media Relations Planning – In conjunction with Director of External Affairs, develops and implements an annual Media Relations Plan that will help advance Mount Carmel's mission and strategic agenda. Develops the plan with input from appropriate internal stakeholders.


    News Media Relationship-Building -- Builds strong relationships with the news media, including reporters/writers, editors and producers. Positions Mount Carmel as a trusted resource for news stories.


    News Media Story Idea Generation – Assists in the development of an internal system/process for generating news media story ideas, including developing strong relationships with potential sources of ideas. Strategically and critically evaluates all story ideas for appropriateness.


    News Media Inquiries -- Strategically and critically evaluates news media inquiries, seeks input from appropriate stakeholders with the required knowledge and expertise of the subject matter, recommends a response/course of action and seeks the necessary approvals.


    Media Relations -- Shares on-call coverage on a rotating basis with other Communications & Public Affairs staff to facilitate news media inquiries after business hours.


    Social Media -- Utilizes social media as appropriate to advance Mount Carmel's community relations program including content creation, dissemination and monitoring.

    Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

    Education: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or public relations.


    Licensure / Certification:


    Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in public relations, media relations or journalism. Community relations experience helpful.


    Effective Communication Skills.


    Ability to function strategically and systemically.


    Strong interpersonal skills.


    Strong collaborative skills.


    Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.


    Proficiency in social media.


    Excellent organizational skills.
