    In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors; the Medical Data Analyst is responsible for ongoing monitoring and analysis of data collection methods for medical utilization reporting such as physician profiling and high risk management. Also responsible for analysis and communication of utilization report output. Responsible for overall quality of input and output from the plan’s data system for both internal and external use. Seeks out external information sources and establishes normative/comparative data for use in meeting MCHP’s strategic initiatives. Designer and keeper of health plan scorecards and medical cost/quality analytic applications and models. Continually evaluates effectiveness of reports and benchmarks and provides recommendations for modifications as needed. Performs ad hoc analysis in support of Medical Management and Medical Director report needs. Liaison with Information Systems support assisting in setting priorities, reporting needs and decision support tools/methods.

    • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Health Administration or equivalent experience, statistics, Finance or data related field required; Master’s preferred, but not required.
    • Experience: 5-7 years relevant experience in finance/health care utilization analysis and reporting required.
    • Effective Communication Skills
    • General understanding of computerized data collection and reporting processes.
    • Good working knowledge of managed care business processes, table-based data systems, and applications for claims payment, provider contracting and reimbursement methodology.
    • Technically sophisticated with relational database concepts and applications, analytic data development (statistics) and decision support tools.
    • Ability to analyze and report data in a meaningful way.
    • Project management skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects/priorities.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology
    • Ability to present effectively and technically in writing and orally to management, health professionals, physicians and other contracted providers.
    • Ability to perform multiple and diverse tasks, readily accept change and influence organizational change where appropriate.
    • Innovative and self-directed, with the ability to work in cross-functional team environment.
    • Knowledge of methods for patient risk stratification.
    • Extensive knowledge of Performance improvement methods, including control and run charts.
    • Proficient in the use of Excel graphs and manipulating information.
    • Proficient in the use of Access: merging data, building tables, running queries, using macros, and creating reports.
    • Proficient at transforming data into useful information.
