  • Assists in the practice of Occupational Therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist.  Documents patient's progress per protocol. 

     

    JOB DUTIES

    1.       Actively demonstrates the organization's mission and core values, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values.

    2.       Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information.

    3.       Assists patient, as directed by the Occupational Therapist, towards goal achievement through effective treatment plan and interventions. Performs and records simple, standardized measurement procedures and records results in the patient's medical record.  Develops home exercises and self treatment plans for patients. Provides to patient and family education including diagnosis and prognosis of therapy

    4.       Recognizes adverse responses or contradictions to therapy and reports changes to Occupational Therapist.  Adjusts treatment accordingly.

    5.       Makes timely and appropriate discharge plans and recommendations for the anticipated needs of the patient in collaboration with the attending Occupational Therapist.

    6.       Completes in a thorough and accurate manner and within the department specified time frame(s), progress notes/flow sheets, discharge summaries and additional required documentation (e.g. consent, staffing reports, rounds, attendance agreements, patient and family education needs assessment form). 

    7.       Records occurrence(s) of education and/or home exercise program provided and reports patient/family return demonstration and/or comprehension of training provided.

    8.       Adheres to documentation requirements by regulatory agencies such as Medicare.  (EX. Records duration of specific treatment procedures in minutes).

    9.       Submits daily charges that accurately reflect documentation within specified time frame.  Assures that documentation is complete prior to discharging patient.

    10.   Participates actively in patient staffing and /or team meetings. 

    11.   Under the direction of the Occupational Therapist, make appropriate recommendations and referrals for additional services.

    12.   Consults with other professionals and/or appropriately seeks assistance from co-workers as needed. 

    13.   Is flexible with hours of availability to meet department needs.

    14.   Engages patient using interpersonal dynamics to facilitate and effect therapeutic changes.

    15.   Participates appropriately and actively in family conferences and/or family/patient training opportunities.

    16.   Participates in case management needs as per requirements in individual departments.

    17.   Maintains established departmental productivity standards. 

    18.   Actively participates in departmental initiatives such as Performance Improvement Initiatives, and CARF, JCAHO, State Board of Health readiness.

    19.   Attends all mandatory inservices and meetings and other inservices that are related to area of responsibility

    20.   Adheres to and maintains all necessary competency requirements for job responsibilities.

    21.   Helps maintain department equipment and reports equipment malfunctions to immediate supervisor. 

    22.   Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

     

     

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

    Education :  Graduate of an Occupational Therapy Assistant Program or its equivalent.  

    Licensure:  Licensed in the State of Indiana as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. 

    Experience:  1-2 year experience in an Occupational Therapy Clinical Setting.

    Other Job Requirements: 

    Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written are required.  Must be able to adjust to varying treatment loads and schedules.  Requires flexible work schedule including weekends. Considerable initiative, judgment and problem solving required.

    Assigned hours within your shift, starting time, or days of work are subject to change based on departmental and/or organizational needs.
