  • Patient attendant will provide a safe environment for the patient who meets the criteria to be monitored on a one to one observational basis.  The patients are screened by the charge RN and the administrative supervisor to confirm the need for close observation. 

     

     

    JOB DUTIES

    1.       Actively demonstrates and supports the organization’s mission and core values.  Conducts self in a manner consistent with values at all times.

    2.       Knows and adheres to laws and regulations pertaining to health, safety and medical information.

    3.       Assures patient care area is free of objects which may cause harm to patient or others. 

    4.       Maintains visual contact of patient throughout the entire shift.

    5.       Accompanies patients everywhere, never leaving patient alone in room or hallway.

    6.       Reports all changes in patient demeanor to the nurse in charge of patient.  At least an hourly update during nurses rounds.

    7.       Holds conversation with patient and engage in activity per patient request (listening to music, playing cards, reading, watching TV, etc).

    8.       Prevents patients from climbing or falling out of bed. 

    9.       Attempt to prevent patient from pulling on their IV, NG tube, dressing, etc.

    10.   Assist with meals as needed.

    11.   Assists patient in ambulating to the bathroom or to the chair if appropriate for patient.

    12.   Patient personal hygiene will be completed by nursing staff not patient attendant.

    13.   Call nursing staff for assistance as needed.

    14.   Performs other related duties as assigned or as workload or staffing variations require.

     

     

     

     

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

    Education: High school graduate or GED.

     

    Licensure: CPR.

    Experience: Experience working with people.  Open to communicate and build trust and a relationship with patients who may be difficult to understand.  Previous experience in customer service and/or prior medical experience strongly preferred.   

    Other Job Requirements:

    Strong written/verbal communication skills.

    Knowledge of confidentiality requirements.

    Knowledge of human behavior and performance.

    Assigned hours within your shift, starting time or days of work are subject to change based on departmental and/or organizational needs.
