    • Job Summary
      • An Infection Control Nurse participates in University Hospitals overall Infection Surveillance, Prevention and Control Program. Functional area(s) of responsibility include clinical epidemiology, infection prevention and control and education/consultation. The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for routinely and independently implementing Infection Control Nurse practice protocols and existing University Hospital policies and procedures, recognizing and initiating appropriate follow-up of high risk situations and events in a timely manner, and effectively communicating with University Hospital/University Health Services employees and affiliates and federal/state/local public health agency staffs in achieving infection prevention and control goals.
      • Demonstrates population-specific competencies (e.g. age-specific, cultural sensitivity, patient-centered communication) in performance of role.
    • Qualifications Required
      • Education:
        • *Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Georgia; Bachelor of Science in Nursing or related field. Must have acceptable educational preparation in the specialty, or minimally, must achieve it within the first year of employment. Acceptable evidence of specialty preparation includes Certification in Infection Control (CIC) or completion of advanced education or continuing education in the following fields (i.e., CIC eligible): patient care practices, infectious diseases, microbiology, employee health, sterilization/disinfection, antisepsis, basic epidemiologic methods, descriptive statistics, adult education and consultation.

        • N/A
      • Experience:
        • *Two years of experience as a clinical nurse in the hospital setting. Leadership experience desirable.
      • Knowledge, skills, abilities:
        • *Demonstrates a strong knowledge of basic pathophysiology and patient care practices, reasoning skills and collaborative/interactive skills supportive of assessment and problem-solving responsibilities.
    • Physical Demands
      • Visual ability to read documents, including medical records and computer terminals. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Auditory ability to hear staff, medical staff, patients and families via phone and in person. Manual dexterity to extract, input, and retrieve data. Physical ability to move about the organization and travel to meetings outside the organization. Cognitive ability to understand and analyze complex health care information and data.
