  • BLS - Basic Life Support
    • Job Summary
      • Responsible for greeting and providing hospital customers with accurate information related to all hospital services including patient registration and admission information. Serves as the principal contact and reference center for hospital customers in designated areas. Anticipates, identifies, and responds to customers needs, making appropriate referrals throughout the hospital and auxiliary areas. Provides escorts and wheelchair service as needed. The Customer Service Representative is responsible to the Admit Center. Accountability is monitored through performance evaluation and comments from customers which include patients, guests, employees, and physicians.

      • Responsible for maintaining electronic check in log; filing; obtaining signatures on the basic Informed Consent , arm banding patients and coordinating the needs of the patients as they arrive with the Registration and/or clinical staff.

      • Responsible for obtaining patient or families' signature for required forms per the assigned process.

      • Responsible for collecting co-pays, co-insurance and/or deductibles as assigned by Access Registrar from Inpatients with financial obligations.

      • Responsible for scanning assigned documents into a patients' electronic file.

      • Demonstrates population-specific competencies (e.g. age-specific, cultural sensitivity, patient-centered communication) in performance of role.
    • Qualifications Required
      • Education:
        • High School Graduate or equivalent. Post high-school education highly preferred. (Example: college course work/degree, medical terminology, computer courses)
      • Licensure/Certification:
        • CPR for Family & Friends required, or must obtain during department orientation period
      • Experience:
        • Minimum three years successful experience in a customer service environment required.
        • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills and/or experience working in a hospital, physicians or general office setting preferred. Insurance knowledge a plus.
      • Knowledge, skills, abilities:
        • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with all customers including co-workers, hospital staff and volunteers.
        • Ability to practice assertive customer service skills and cope with a high volume of traffic entering the hospital.
        • Ability to work in a team structured environment with co-workers in your area as well as other areas to always be available to the customer and never leaving your area unattended.
        • Knowledge of PC and ability to learn functions of the hospital system required.
        • Must interact from a positive, optimistic perspective and be pro University Hospital and customer service driven.
        • Must be empathetic, professional, tactful, sensitive, flexible, and exercise good judgment.
        • Should be able to multi-task and work in a fast paced work place.
        • Should be able to demonstrate proficiency in the basic patient account search in Health quest
        • Should be able to demonstrate ability to scan to the correct document type
        • Required familiarity with operating usual office equipment such as fax, copier and computer.
    • Physical Demands
      • Must be able to sit for long periods of time when necessary. Manual dexterity required for computer and telephone tasks and for escorting patients via wheelchair. Must be physically able to seat, unseat and transport wheelchair and stretcher patients. Must be knowledgeable of proper lifting techniques and use them whenever lifting.
