INTRODUCTION

The Mental Health Clinician (MHC) provides psychotherapy to a diverse population with multi-faceted and complex needs.  Clinical supervision is provided by a licensed MHC.

 

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to providing psychotherapy, assessments, diagnoses, treatment planning, and crisis intervention.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides individual, family, or group psychotherapy appropriate to license, experience and training.
  • Conducts diagnostic, substance abuse, and risk assessments.
  • Provides same day consultation to providers and/or patients on behavioral health needs (PCBH model) as allocated, or as schedule allows. 
  • Develops a professional therapeutic relationship with patients.
  • Coaches and supports patients to increase compliance with medical treatment.
  • Consults with health center director and providers on challenging patient situations as needed.
  • Provides crisis intervention and triage for patients experiencing emotional difficulties at the site and assist with referrals to Unity psychiatrists or community mental health resources as needed.
  • Responds promptly to internal referrals for therapy, including coordination with clinicians at another site or referral to external resources when appropriate.
  • On occasion, provides social service case management or referrals when needed.
  • Accurately documents and locks all patient encounters in eClinical Works (eCW) and complete billing process (if applicable) accurately and according to procedure to meet Unity's and payer source requirements. Responds to messages, referrals and telephone encounters (tcons) per electronic medical record policy.
  • Attends departmental, health center and agency meetings as scheduled.
  • Assists with special projects at the health center.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities including clinical supervision, peer supervision, and internal or external training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN I - QUALIFICATIONS

·         Masters in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related degree required.

·         DC license (LICSW, LPC, LMFT or Psychologist).

·         DC license (LGSW, LGPC, Psychology Associate, or pre-LMFT (passed national exam)) and completion of 75% of required hours for independent license.

·         Three years of experience (including internships) providing counseling, mental health support and/or case management with at risk populations in a community health setting.

 

MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN II - QUALIFICATIONS

·         Masters in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related degree.

·         DC license (LICSW, LPC, LMFT or Psychologist) required.

  • Four years' experience providing psychotherapy and/or case management with at risk populations in a community health setting.

·         Previous experience providing clinical supervision to interns or trainees.

 

MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN III – QUALIFICATIONS

·         Masters in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related degree.

·         DC license (LICSW, LPC, LMFT, Psychologist) required.

·         Six or more years' experience providing psychotherapy to at risk populations in a community health setting.

·         Previous experience providing clinical supervision and/or training to staff, interns or trainees.

 

MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN ROLE - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES RECOMMENDED  

·       Competent in basic psychotherapy skills including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, active listening

·       Able to utilize evidence based interventions to improve mental health of clients.

·       Knowledge about special populations (HIV+, homeless, medically indigent, etc) and diversity/ cultural issues in treatment.

·       Ability to work collaboratively with medical health providers in a patient-centered medical home model.

·         Ability to use Electronic Health Record software required.

·         Excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN II - ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES RECOMMENDED

·       Able to utilize cognitive-behavioral, motivational interviewing, solution-focused, trauma recovery or other evidence based modalities to improve mental health of clients.

 

MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN III - ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES RECOMMENDED

·       Able to utilize cognitive-behavioral, motivational interviewing, solution-focused, trauma recovery, dialectical behavioral therapy, or other evidence based interventions to improve mental health of clients.

·        Experience working with 2 or more age groups (child, adolescent, adult, geriatric)
