Title: Environmental Services Supervisor

Schedule: Full-time

Location: Arlington, VA  

Purpose of Scope:

Environmental Services Supervisor is a working role in leading the work activities of cleaning personnel in their assigned area. Maintains a high standard of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the hospital.

Assists the shift Operations Manager in maintaining high quality standards of housekeeping within set forth performance standards. Keeps leadership fully informed on the immediate condition of all assigned areas as it relates to staffing and cleanliness, in addition to ongoing training, supervising, and motivating of department personnel to insure all schedules are covered.

Position Requirements:

Education: High school education required or equivalent.

Experience: Hotel or hospital housekeeping, with some supervisory experience desirable.


  • Tours each assigned area of the hospital daily as directed, to observe cleaning crews at work and to determine that instructions are followed and safety rules are observed.
  • Maintains overall accountability/responsibility for assigned areas.
  • Follows through with departments of assigned areas to ensure work is accomplished.
  • Maintains quality control programs, as appropriate.
  • Thoroughly cleans assigned areas, including patient rooms, carpets, rugs, floors and ancillary areas, using quality standards established by Environmental Servcies Leadership.
  • Responds to environmental emergency situations through knowledge of fire and disaster procedures.
  • Provides leadership, supervision, coaching, and guidance to staff.
  • Maintains standards of quality within the department.
  • Includes staff in establishing unit goals. Shares accountability with staff for meeting goals
  • Establishes consistent and effective inter- and intra-department communication standards.
  • Promotes staff morale.
  • Holds self and staff accountable to the policies, procedures, and standards of Federal, State, Local and other governing agencies, as well as that of the hospital and department.
  • Collaborates with appropriate personnel to define department based competencies and orientation.
  • Plans and facilitates trainings or programs to meet the educational needs of staff, including orientation, in-services, or education requirements.
  • Conducts regular staff meetings, shares information appropriately and provides open communication for feedback.
  • Promotes and encourages the professional growth and development of staff and self.
  • Participates in department-based or hospital-based committees, if applicable.
  • Attends all hospital and departmental mandatory in-services, trainings or meetings
