Purpose and Scope:
The RN First Assistant renders direct patient care as part of the perioperative role by assisting the surgeon in the surgical treatment of the patient. This is accomplished under the direct supervision of the Attending Surgeon and in accordance to the goals of the department of Cardiovascular Surgery. Relocation assistance is available. Willing to consider RN with open heart OR experience wanting to train to the RNFA role.
I. Position Requirements:
A. Education: The RN First Assistant is a graduate from an accredited school of nursing, licensed in the state of Virginia and employee of Virginia Hospital Center. A baccalaureate degree in nursing is recommended. The RNFA must have completed and passed an approved, structured course in First Assisting. In addition, certification in Perioperative Nursing is required within a year of completing the course.
B. Experience: It is preferred a minimum of 1 year of RNFA experience with demonstrated leadership ability. The RN must possess CPR certification. Willing to consider RNs with open hear OR experience wanting to train to the RNFA role.
