  • Position Purpose:

    Under general direction of the Administrator, this position is responsible and accountable for planning, marketing, organizing and leading staff to assume accountability for resident care decisions and actions in accordance with organizational goals and regulatory skilled nursing facility standards.

    Nature and Scope:

    The incumbent must function independently, providing the opportunity and milieu for strategic direction and planning, establishing standards, establishing the budget, and monitoring operational performance. This position is responsible for the subacute-type care services (ie extensive wound care, intravenous therapy, and respiratory care).


    The incumbent is accountable for comprehensive knowledge of the programs, services, processes, and growth of assigned areas.  Learning organizations manifest themselves through systemic solutions, empowerment, and locality (decisions made by those doing the work).  The incumbent is accountable to foster WPCC as a learning organization in the Washoe Health System.  Supports WPCC as a site for CNA and LPN training.


    This position faces the major challenges of fostering positive relationships between the physicians, the community, and the facility for maintaining cost effective and high quality patient care; designing and teaching educational programs; complying with state, federal and governing body regulations; and working cooperatively with clinical and financial departments to achieve health system goals.


    The incumbent is accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of pediatric, adult and/or geriatric patients.  The incumbent demonstrates the ability to work with patient’s physical, motor/sensory adaptation, cognitive, and psychosocial needs specific to the population being served, and meets standards of quality as measured by CMS quality measures and OBRA interpretive guidelines.


    The incumbent establishes the nursing operational budget and monitors performance in terms of expense per unit of service (PPD/per patient day) and labor hours per patient day.


    The incumbent is accountable for knowledge of program services for skilled nursing, sub-acute, and substance abuse.


    The position plays a critical facility role in defining and implementing quality standards to support residential and family satisfaction.

    10.       When/if providing patient care, demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical motor/sensory, psychosocial and safety appropriate to the age of the patients served.

    11.       Ability to prepare labor projections and modify staffing patterns within fiscal standards, regulatory requirements, and acuity demands.

    12.       Ability to manage recruitment of personnel in a timely manner to suffice facility staffing levels and complies with health system standards.

    13.       Ability to design and coordinate clinical documentation systems based on clinical work performance, reimbursement standards and regulatory compliance.

    14.       Ability to lead clinical staff toward optimism quality performance as evidenced by CMS Quality Measures and skilled nursing personnel.

    15.       Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate into operational performance outcomes for all levels of nursing personnel.

    16.       Ability to serve as a mentor in developing clinical nursing managers, licensed and certified nursing personnel.

    17.       Flexibility to function in a high volume, diverse population skilled nursing facility with a typical occupancy of 90%.

    Minimum Qualifications:  Requirements - Required and/or Preferred


    Exceptional mastery of the English language with the ability to use the language for

    persuasion and influence in a professional and diplomatic manner is needed to lead

    and achieve performance.


    A Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in a healthcare or business field is required.


    Five years of health care experience in a position of increasing responsibility including

    at least two years in geriatric and post-acute care settings with extensive work experience

    of the MDS/RAI standards.


    Current Nevada State R.N. License.



    Computer / Typing:

    Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and

    Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete learning requirements, access

    forms and policies and perform daily work.
