Exhibits competence in blood collection by venipuncture and capillary technique from patients of all age groups. Follows all specimen collection requirements for lab testing to also include blood cultures, chain of custody drug screens, therapeutic drugs and other reference lab tests. Accurately performs computer functions necessary to document accurate specimen collection, etc. Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of compliance and safety. Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, necessary to interact effectively with all internal and external customers.
Completion of approved accredited phlebotomy training program, ASCP or other national certification preferred or equivalent experience through employment.
BLS is required for any RN, LPN, PCT, Patient Transporter or other direct patient care provider. Emergency Department, Intensive Care Units, PACU, Medical Emergency Team and Anesthesia require ACLS. Pediatrics, SICU, Emergency Department and Medical Emergency Team also require PALS
