The Assistant Supervisor works collaboratively with the Supervisor to ensure day-to-day oversight of program operations, including the care of children, physical environment and staff. The Assistant Supervisor works an alternate schedule to the Supervisor to ensure supervisory coverage and works with the Supervisor and Program Manager to foster team-building and positive program development. This position is split between direct care hours and administrative/supervisory time.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
Associates in a Human Services field required, BA/BS degree in a related field preferred. Experience working with high need children and families of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds in a congregate care setting is also required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborates with Supervisor regarding Direct Care Counselor supervision, scheduling of direct care staff and training of the direct care staff in the milieu.
Provides framework for staff regarding the organization of milieu activities such as, skill-building, community groups, recreational activities, maintenance of the physical environment, and planning day-to-day activities that promote healthy child/adolescent development.
Facilitates the building of positive communication, problem-solving, anger management, and social skills in the milieu.
Serves as a role model for staff to promote a strong work ethic and the use of evidence-based, trauma-informed, relational approaches/models of intervention with youth and families as well as other staff members.
Ensures that staff provides culturally competent care and maintain sensitivity to and respect for clients' cultural traditions, values, and beliefs.
Provides 24 hour on-call coverage according to standards mandated by licensing and other regulatory agencies, in rotation with the Supervisor.
Submits all required documentation and reports in a timely manner while participating in and promoting quality improvement and outcome measurement activities.
Assists in recruitment, retention, and hiring of staff.
Reports suspected child abuse/neglect, as mandated and adheres to confidentiality guidelines.
Administers medication to youth according to standards mandated by licensing and regulatory agencies, including Wheeler Clinic.
Interacts with, counsels and relates to youth in ways that support asset-building through praising youth, focusing on their strengths and helping them to take responsibility for their choices and behaviors in a manner consistent with their treatment plan.
Adapts, facilitates and evaluates age appropriate activities in an effort to assist youth in achieving their goals.
Trains and participates in emergency safety interventions authorized and approved by the agency, when a student presents with an imminent safety concern.
Prepares nutritious and culturally diverse meals for children in the program and ensures that their daily care and developmental needs are met.
Engages youth is developmentally appropriate life skill development activities.
Maintains the home environment to ensure that it is clean.
Transports youth to appointments and activities.
Administers medication to youth according to agency policy and procedures.
Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.
Demonstrates leadership by reinforcing positive behavior and promoting recognition through the use of effective employee evaluations, employee appreciation, effective hiring practices, and accountability.
