Education: Graduate of an accredited college with a degree in Recreational Therapy or related field. Certified from the National Council for therapeutic Recreation Certification. Knowledge of TR philosophy as it applies in a behavioral health setting. Understanding of psychiatric illnesses, evaluation and treatment. Training and Experience: One to three months on-the job training to learn department procedures. Job Knowledge: Must be able to perform job duties of a recreational therapist and those general duties specific to the Behavioral Health Unit. Must be able to function in a professional manner with minimal direct supervision. The Recreation Therapist functions as a member of the Treatment Team and is responsible for provision of recreation therapy services to patients. Duties include evaluation, design of treatment programs, maintenance of appropriate records related to the care of patients and assists with overall development and productivity of the department. Supervises and effectively uses support personnel, students, and volunteers.
